To trace the history of Jadavpur University is to trace a part of India’s freedom movement, at least from the Swadeshi Movement onwards. It was 1905 -1906.Bengal stood divided. The times were feverish.
The hegemony of the British establishment had to be challenged. Education had to play a new role in this changed scenario. It had to become a new form of resistance through which the emergent nationalist spirit could be propagated. With this in mind the National Council of Education (NCE) came into being.
Its primary aim was to impart education - literary, scientific and technical on national lines exclusively under national control. To achieve self-reliance, through education. The foundation of the NCE was made possible by the munificence - scholarly as well as monetary - of the likes of Raja Subodh Chandra Mallik , Brajendra Kishore Roychowdhury of Gouripur as well as Sir Rash Behari Ghosh (first President of NCE), poet Rabindranath Tagore and Sri Aurobindo Ghosh.
In 1910 the Society for the Promotion of Technical Education in Bengal which looked after Bengal Technical Institute (which later became College of Engineering and Technology, Bengal) was amalgamated to NCE. NCE henceforth looked after the College of Engineering and Technology, Bengal which by 1940 was virtually functioning as a University. After Independence, the Government of West Bengal, with the concurrence of the Govt. of India,

Jadavpur University is an outcome of nationalist movement initiated in the early twentieth century by the intellectuals and thinkers of Bengal. In addition to a rich heritage of the Faculties of Engineering, Arts and Science the University has a large number of Interdisciplinary Schools. In the present age, the traditional rigid boundaries of disciplines are removed and the subjects are divided and subdivided into smaller units that cris-cross and mix together to form new interdisciplinary ideas. Close association of members of different faculties has facilitated them to take full advantage of this effect. The untiring effort of the faculty members and staff and enthusiasm of the brightest students have catapulted the University to the top rank in research and teaching in the country.As the Vice-Chancellor of this University, I am entrusted and committed towards achieving excellence in all our activities by providing easy and accessible leadership for an efficient Management System and to enhance the infrastructural facilities in the University, thereby increasing the efficiency of the University. I am sincere to motivate and rejuvenate every Department, School and Centre of this University to be shining as Outstanding Units of Higher Education.

About FETJU B.Pharma Course:-

The B.Pharm course is of four years duration. Students completing this degree course are eligible to register as pharmacist and practise the profession throughout India as per the rules and regulations of Pharmacy Council of India.
